TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe second batch of COVID-19 vaccine from the COVAX facility has finally arrived in Indonesia. Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi confirmed 3,852,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine landed today, April 26. In the first batch that took place last March, the country received 1.1 million doses.

“With the arrival of this second batch, Indonesia has received 4,965,600 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine from the COVAX facility in total,” said Retno in a press statement on Monday, April 26, 2021.

Retno continued that when the total number of vaccine from the multilateral scheme was added to the number of those from the bilateral scheme, Indonesia has received 67,465,600 doses, including the Sinovac vaccine.

This second batch of delivery, however, has not covered the vaccine doses that the COVAX facility prepared for Indonesia. COVAX, a global initiative of the World Health Organization (WHO), pledged to send 11.7 million doses.

“The Indonesian government is trying to meet the domestic needs while fighting for vaccine equality for all countries. This is why Indonesia is active in discussing COVID-19 vaccines,” said Retno.
