TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta provincial government in collaboration with the Indonesian Association of Urban and Regional Planners (IAP) is holding a slum upgrading competition at the community unit or RW level. The total prize pool reaches Rp100 million.
The competition will be held from April to June 2021. Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria said the competition aims to organize slum areas according to the vision and mission of Governor Anies Baswedan.
“It is community empowerment. So we prioritize community empowerment in all of our programs, including the structuring. We ask for people's input through this competition,” said Riza Patria at the City Hall.
As quoted from the Instagram official account of IAP @iap_jakarta, the competition is targeting young planners to develop a slum rejuvenation concept in urban villages of the capital.
The Covid-19 pandemic requires people to maintain distance and cleanliness, but not all residents have the privilege of being able to live in a clean and healthy environment. Thus, inputs on urban planning are needed so that slum areas can be healthier and more resilient during the pandemic.
“On the basis of the above, the Jakarta IAP supported by the Provincial Government holds a slum upgrading competition."
