Global Competition to Secure COVID-19 Vaccines Is Intense: Health Minister

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin in a live press conference today said the global competition among countries to secure COVID-19 vaccines had tightend. However, he assured Indonesia's supply sources for COVID-19 vaccines remained safe.

“The competition to obtain vaccines on the global scale is heating up. Alhamdulillah Indonesia has four sources of vaccines,” said Budi Gunadi at the Jakarta National Gallery aired live by the Presidential Secretariat on April 19.

The four vaccine producers that Indonesia has established partnerships with consist of China, the United Kingdom, and Germany-United States. This has broadened Indonesia’s options if there is a disturbance in the supply chain, he said.

Budi said China was one of the vaccine sources with the smoothest flow of supply. “There is a delivery every two weeks,” said Sadikin.

China, through Sinovac Biotech, last week sent its latest shipment of six million vaccine bulks as part of its 140 million bulks in total. This marks the eighth shipment that will later be processed into COVID-19 vaccines by state pharmaceutical firm Bio Farma.
