Govt: Workers' Right for Eid Allowance Must be Paid in Full

12 April 2021 14:04 WIB

Minister of Manpower Ida Fauziyah.

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Manpower Minister Ida Fauziyah has officially issued a circular aimed at each and every Indonesian governor which basically asks for the fulfillment of workers’ religious allowance known as THR (Eid allowance).

“The distribution of religious allowance or THR is a requirement that must be fulfilled by business owners to its workers. The distribution of the religious allowance for workers or laborers is also an attempt to help fulfill their needs to celebrate the religious commemoration,” said the Manpower Minister in a statement on Monday, April 12.

She also mentioned specifically that the Eid allowance will help recover the public consumption and help boost economic growth. The minister also implied that the circular is based on the Government Regulation No.36/2021 on remunerations and the Manpower Minister’s Regulation No.6/2016 on religious allowances for workers.

She asserts that companies must pay out the Eid allowances to their employees at a maximum of seven days prior to the religious celebration, in this case the Eid al Fitr.
