TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo in opening the National Awakening Party (PKB) national event asserted that the government will not compromise with acts of intolerance and assures that there will be no room for terrorism - which goes against religious values.
“The government commits to preserving religious moderation in society. Tolerance is a significant part in religious moderation. Closemindedness and exclusivity do not align with bhineka tunggal ika (unity in diversity),” said the President in the PKB national meeting held at the State Palace on Thursday, April 8.
Jokowi used the opportunity to address the series of terror acts that happened in Indonesia recently, which he said had surprised him. He said the disgraceful acts are major crimes against humanity that threaten the shared sense of communion.
“Acts that are born from misguided views or erroneous understandings are clearly against religious values,” said Widodo.
He also believes the PKB will not back down from constantly spreading moderate values, mainly religious moderation. "[And] uphold tolerance that would eventually make radical terrorism in the country become nonexistent,” said President Jokowi.
