TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Provincial Government has missed its promise to complete the construction of permanent bike lanes along Jalan Jenderal Sudirman until MH Thamrin by the end of March 2021. The project is reportedly delayed because of the change of Transjakarta busways.
“Transjakarta lanes will be moved to the east so that one lane on the east side will be into the west side so there will be lane consistency,” said Jakarta Transportation Agency head Syafrin Liputo in Jakarta, Wednesday, April 7, 2021.
He explained that the busways in Dukuh Atas will be set for bike trails. With the change, there will be three lanes for motorized vehicles, and so one permanent bicycle lane could be built without hitch.
“The obstacles include the construction in Semanggi Park. This also requires comprehensive input from all elements,” Riza said, adding that the agency is accelerating the project.
The permanent lanes will use a planter box to clear boundaries between cyclists and motorists. According to Syafrin, 505 of the total target of 4,454 dividers have been installed, or 11.3 percent.
Jakarta administration was determined to build 11.2 kilometers of permanent bike lanes along Sudirman to Thamrin. It will also be equipped with a bicycle rack as a rest area for cyclists.
