TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) Suharso Monoarfa, confirmed that the construction of the Presidential Palace in the new capital will commence in 2021.
With thoughtful calculations on the target of the national vaccination program and herd immunity, Bappenas is optimistic that the construction can begin this year and will be completed in 2024.
"We are optimistic, hopefully, the groundbreaking of the Presidential Palace can be held this year so that on August 17, 2024, the president can celebrate [Indonesia’s Independence Day) in the new capital city," said Suharso as quoted from the agency’s official statement on Thursday, April 1, 2021.
Bappenas has matched the master plan and the urban design of the new capital in East Kalimantan with the Ministry of Public Works and Housing for the construction project.
Earlier, Bappenas’s Deputy for Regional Development, Rudy Soeprihadi Prawiradinata, clarified that the viral design of the new state palace is still subject to revision as it is just an initial idea.
"The Garuda-shaped design of the new State Capital City Palace is made by the Nuart architectural bureau owned by Nyoman Nuarta. It seems that the design is an initial idea that can be reviewed and discussed with architectural experts and planners," said Rudy.
