TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Hundreds of National Police and Indonesian Military (TNI) personnel are stationed at the Jakarta Cathedral Church following the terror attack at the National Police Headquarters on Wednesday afternoon, March 31, 2021. They will protect the church from the threat of terrorism as Christians will undergo Easter Week starting today.
"There are 105 joint personnel from TNI and the National Police," said Sawah Besar Sector Police Chief Adj. Come. Maulana Mukarom on Thursday, April 1, 2021.
Maulana explained that the security members include personnel from Mobile Brigade Unit (Brimob), the police bomb squad (Gegana), Central Jakarta Police, and the K-9 animal unit. They are stationed in six areas.
Jakarta Metro Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Yusri Yunus previously said that he had coordinated with church administrators across the capital to install more CCTV cameras. He would also routinely conduct large-scale patrols at places of worship and other vital objects, as well as areas that are considered prone to the threat of crime. The patrols would be carried out by about 200 personnel from joint security forces.
Christians will undergo Easter Week which takes place from Thursday, April 1, to Sunday, April 4, 2021. This evening, Christians will celebrate Maundy Thursday, followed by the celebration of Good Friday and Easter on Sunday.
