TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has spoken up about the act of terrorism at the National Police Headquarters, South Jakarta, on Wednesday, March 31. He called on the public to remain calm.
“In response to the terrorism act yesterday afternoon at the National Police HQ, I call on all people throughout the country to stay calm, stay vigilant, and maintain unity against terrorism,” said the President during the inauguration of the toll road in South Tangerang, Thursday, April 1.
On Wednesday afternoon, a woman identified as Z entered the National Police HQ complex and started shooting the security forces. There was a gunfight between the armed person and the officers.
The gunfight ended as the police shot the alleged terrorist who was later dead. The police considered it as the lone wolf attack committed by Z, a sympathizer of the terrorist group ISIS.
Jokowi said he has ordered National Police Chief Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo, Indonesian Military (TNI) Commander Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto, and Head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) Budi Gunawan to heighten awareness. This is an act of terror that occurred four days after the suicide bombing at the Makassar Cathedral Church.
“I assert this again that there is no place for terrorism in the country,” the state head underlined.
