14 Injured Because of the Suicide Bombing in Makassar: Police

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Public Relations Division Head of the National Police, Inspector General Argo Yuwono, said there were 14 victims from the suicide bombing incident at the Cathedral Church of Makassar City, South Sulawesi.

"So there were 14 victims, meaning those who are still under treatment are handled by doctors, and hopefully they can recover soon," said Argo in a press conference, Sunday, March 28, 2021.

Argo said that the victims were security officers of the church and a number of people from the congregation. A total of 3 people were taken to Stella Maris Hospital, Makassar. They mostly experienced wounds on the neck, chest, face, hands and feet. Then seven people were also taken to the Academic Hospital because they were hit by splinters from the explosion in their legs, calves, thighs.

Then four people were treated at Pelamonia Hospital due to debris that hit the head, eyes, legs and face.

As for those who died, there were two people who were suspected of bombing the Makassar Cathedral Church.

The two suicide bombers initially rode on a scooter. From the information received, Argo said that the two men were about to enter the church courtyard but were prevented by security. "The church security stopped those two men, and then the explosion occurred," he explained.
