TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Transportation Ministry said it would immediately prepare a regulation on public transportation and trip requirements following the government’s decision to bar Eid homecoming or mudik this year.
“The Transportation Ministry is also coordinating with the COVID-19 Handling Task Force, related ministries and institutions, the military and the police, and regional governments,” said Transportation Ministry spokesperson Adita Irawati in a written statement on Friday, March 26, 2021.
In the Meeting of 2021 Eid al-Fitr Preparations on Friday, March 26, 2021 the government, through a statement by Coordinating Human Development and Culture Minister Muhadjir Effendy, decided to ban Eid exodus this year. The ban affects state civil apparatuses, military and police personnel, state-owned enterprise employees, entrepreneurs and the public in general.
The government said the prohibition would take effect from May 6-17, 2021, thus it appealed to the public to refrain from traveling outside of their areas if not for emergency.
The ministry added it would take the necessary measures to ensure seamless transportation of logistics to secure logistical supplies, particularly the public’s basic necessities.
