East Java MUI Chairman Receives AstraZeneca Vaccine Shot

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Monday paid a visit to the mass COVID-19 vaccinations held in Sidoarjo Regency, East Java, which marked the first time the AstraZeneca vaccine was used in Indonesia’s national vaccination program.
During this event, the President also witnessed the vaccination of the chairman of the East Java chapter of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), K.H. Hasan Mutawakkil Alallah.
There were around 150 people who received their vaccine shots at this location, comprising workers of the public sector, religious figures, up to national athletes. Other vaccination events were also held simultaneously at multiple locations in Sidoarjo Regency.
This event was aired live by the Presidential Secretariat Office’s YouTube channel on March 22, 2021. “I want to assure that the public has shown enthusiasm to participate in the vaccination program,” said Jokowi in the video.
According to the Committee for COVID-19 Handling and National Economic Recovery (KPCPEN), there were 9,397 healthcare workers and 19,482 workers of the public sector who had received two vaccine doses as of March 21.
