TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - West Java college students will have to wait for their COVID-19 vaccine allotment until around June or July this year as the vaccinations for the academic sector slated for March are aimed at lecturers, teachers, and state-university retirees.
“Vaccinations for the public and [university] students are expected to be conducted in June or July,” said Marion Siagian, the head of the West Java Health Agency’s disease prevention and control, on Monday, March 23.
Siagian said during the virtual press conference amid the vaccinations for Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) lecturers, teachers, and state university retirees that the students would be included in the third and fourth national vaccination phases.
She also made sure the schedule would hinge on the national vaccine supply and existing productions. “The world is currently fighting for their share of vaccines,” she said. However, she assured that vaccine production in April and May was plentiful according to reports she received.
ITB is currently hosting a mass COVID-19 vaccination for its entire 3,400 (rough estimate) academic manpower except its students. This event is scheduled to last for three days from March 22.
