Jakarta Spent 53m for Formula E 2022, Says Audit Agency

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Audit Agency (BPK Jakarta) recorded that the Capital City administration has spent nearly Rp1 trillion in 2019-2020 to host the international electric racing series Formula E that is scheduled to be held next year.
Based on the research by the BPK, the city has paid up to 53 million pound sterling or worth Rp983.31 billion.
Jakarta paid in 2019, a £20 million (Rp360 billion). In 2020, it paid another £11 million (Rp200.31 billion) and a bank guarantee up to £22 million (Rp423 billion).
However, the Formula E race for 2020 was canceled because of the global Covid-19 pandemic. It forced the Governor Anies Baswedan to announce the cancellation of the inaugural electric-powered formula cars in the Jakarta’s downtown area.
PT Jakpro had negotiated for a withdrawal of the 22 million pounds bank guarantee as the other payments were unable to be withdrawn due to contractual reasons with Formula E organizers which maintain that the fee is financial guarantees of PT Jakpro's potential liabilities.
