TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - North Sumatra’s Karo District Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) announced that Mount Sinabung on Tuesday, March 16, has erupted again and spewed volcanic ash 300 meters-high above the 2,460-meter volcanic mountain.
“The weather was clear, sunny and cloudy with a breeze heading towards the west and southwest region of the volcanic mountain. Temperatures were detected 16-23 degrees celsius,” said BPBD Karo acting-head, Natanail Parangin-angin on Tuesday.
He noted that there were also 16 observed volcanic avalanches with a 2-43 mm amplitude at a duration of 45-80 seconds.
Mount Sinabung is currently at Level III alert which effectively recommends residents in its vicinity to avoid conducting activities within the three kilometer range of the mountain. Additional sectoral radius of five kilometers in the south-east region was also announced and people are advised to temporarily avoid outdoor activities due to the effects of the volcanic ash.
