TEMPO.CO, JakartaHealth Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin confirmed the number of COVID-19 confirmed cases in Indonesia had shown a downward trend in the last one to two months. He said this condition followed a global downward trend.

“There has been a drastic decline in the figure of confirmed cases,” said Budi in a meeting with the House of Representatives (DPR)'s Health Commission on Monday, March 15.

The downward trend, Budi added, had occurred in all regions, starting from those with the highest figure such as the United States and Europe with their initial peak in January 2021.

As reported on the official website covid-19.go.id, the number of daily cases in the archipelago has plummeted since January 30, 2021. On the date, Indonesia detected 14,518 new infections, the highest daily record since the first cases were detected on March 2, 2020.

The number of new daily cases kept declining to 4,714 as of March 14, 2021.

Besides the positive trend, Budi also recorded a downward trend in the average mortality rate. The highest rate occurred on January 28, 2021 with 476 deaths per day. Based on the latest data, the COVID-19 death cases dropped to 97 on March 14, 2021.

Budi went on to report that the hospital bed occupancy rate had also decreased. However, he stopped short of detailing the data.
