TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Covid-19 Handling Task Force confirmed that there were no fake Covid-19 vaccines circulating in Indonesia, including the syndicate.
“Producing fake vaccines is a crime that endangers people's lives. There is no fake vaccine syndicate found in Indonesia now,” said the task force spokesperson Wiku Adisasmito in his statement on Monday, March 8, 2021.
The government, he explained, procured the vaccine through the government to government scheme (G2G) so that authenticity was guaranteed. “However, the government keeps supervising the distribution,” Wiku added.
The government was determined to monitor the vaccine distribution in the country. “The government will coordinate with the vaccine manufacturers to ensure the authenticity of vaccines,” he said.
The Covid-19 vaccine used must also obtain an emergency use authorization from the government or a distribution number from the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM), Wiku informed.
Wiku further reported that several countries had succeeded in dismantling international syndicates selling fake Covid-19 vaccines from China and South Africa.
