Probe into Policeman Shooting Soldier to Death Proceeds: Police

8 March 2021 16:12 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Police are still investigating the shooting of three people—among them a soldier—by a policeman at RM Café, West Jakarta.

Among the steps in the investigation concluded by the police was psychological examinations of Chief Brigadier CS, the suspected shooter.

“The results of the psychological examinations of the suspect carried out on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 showed the psychological aspect of the suspect was normal,” Jakarta Regional Military spokesman Lt. Col. Arh Herwin BS said in a release on Monday, March 8, 2021.

A day earlier, the Jakarta Police questioned two witnesses, GA alias MA and DH, who were known to be drinking at the café with the suspect on the day of the incident.

Due to the sensitive nature of the incident, the probe of the police’s criminal investigation unit (Bareskrim) on the crime scene was accompanied by members of the Army Strategic Reserves Command (Kostrad) and the Jakarta Regional Military Command (Kodam Jaya).

Indonesia Police Watch presidium chief Neta S. Pane said the deadly shooting at the cafe happened Thursday at dawn, February 25, which was believed to be caused by the steep bill for the drinks ordered by the suspect and his friends.

“The suspect refused to pay,” said Neta in a written statement.

The soldier, who was at the location, attempted to intervene in and control the situation but got into an heated argument with the shooter, who suddenly fired at the three victims.
