TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Education and Culture Minister Nadiem Makarim targeted to reopen schools starting July 2021 as the Covid-19 vaccination for five million educators is expected to complete by the end of June.
“So that we have set a target that in the new academic year of 2021/2022 or in the second and third week of July, all schools will hold face-to-face learning,” said Nadiem in a dialogue in Jakarta, Wednesday, March 3, 2021.
The number of students returning to schools and those continuing online learning will be managed under a rotational system. Schools will be obliged to enforce strict health protocols against coronavirus.
Nadiem further confirmed that the ministry is still allowing schools to flexibly manage the School Operational Assistance (BOS) funds this year. The funds, he added, could be used to prepare the upcoming face-to-face learning.
“Schools are encouraged to reopen when the vaccination has rolled out,” said Nadiem Makarim who was former CEO of the country’s decacorn Gojek.
