Govt to Inject 1 Mn Covid-19 Vaccines a Day in June

3 March 2021 22:49 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaHealth Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin clarified that the national target to give one million shots of the Covid-19 vaccine a day could only be realized in June 2021. Budi reasoned that the government is currently lacking the supply of vaccines.

“I order to vaccinate 500,000 people per day in March-April and 1 million people per day in June-July because the vaccine supply in June-July will reach 25 million doses each month. If we want to hold 30 million shots a month, we don’t have the supply at this time,” said the minister in an online event on Wednesday, March 3, 2021.

The government targeted to vaccinate 60-70 percent of the population or 181.5 million people. Thus, it will require 426 million doses including the spare doses. Indonesia will receive a total of 90 million Covid-19 vaccine in January-June 2021, while the rest will land in July-December 2021.

“With the supply of 90 million doses, 45 million people can be vaccinated until June,” said Budi, concluding that the government could not rush the vaccination until June 2021.
