TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ten million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine raw materials from China's pharmaceutical firm Sinovac arrived today, March 2, at around 12:05 p.m. in Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, aboard a Garuda Indonesia flight GA891.
“Alhamdulillah, we have received ten million doses in bulk form, which is the basic material that will be produced by Bio Farma into [ready-to-use] vaccines,” said Deputy Health Minister Dante Saksono who monitored the vaccine arrival.
The ten million doses of the vaccine raw materials were the fifth batch delivery. On the first and second batch delivery, the government brought in 1.2 million and 1.8 million doses of ready-to-use vaccines, respectively.
As for the third and fourth batch delivery, 15 million and 10 million doses of vaccine raw materials landed in the country. Thus, Indonesia has received 38 million doses of vaccine from Sinovac to date.
The vaccines would be used to support the free Covid-19 vaccination program which targets 181.5 million people. “185 million more vaccines will be sent from Sinovac later,” Dante added.
Other than the Sinovac vaccine, the government was set to procure Covid-19 vaccines from several other pharmaceutical companies, including AstraZeneca from England, Pfizer-BioNTech from Germany and the United States, and Novavax from the U.S.
