TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo asserted that digital transformation efforts carried out in the country must encourage the use of local products in a bid to increase local content or known as TKDN.
“[We call for] the use of domestic products and encourage the mastery of the latest digital technology by all nation's children,” he said at the launching of the 2021 Digital Connectivity Program and the new series stamp of the Covid-19 vaccination in the State Palace in Jakarta, Friday, February 26.
However, he underlined that Indonesia is not a protectionist country. History has also proven that protectionism is detrimental to the nation.
Jokowi further emphasized that Indonesia must not be a victim of unfair trade practices of the world’s digital giants. “Digital transformation is a win-win solution for all parties,” said the President.
Therefore, he hoped this year’s digital connectivity program will serve as a fundamental moment to unite the country, “With new technology, a new mindset, new global business opportunities, and new futures towards onward Indonesia.”
The digital connectivity, Jokowi went on, must adhere to national sovereignty in the midst of globalization and hypercompetition.
