TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Rains in and around Jakarta early on Saturday flooded 193 community units (RT) in the capital and forced 1,380 residents to flee their homes, the Jakarta Provincial Natural Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) reported.

The floods affected 44 community units in South Jakarta, with floodwaters reaching a depth of 40 cm to 150 cm, according to data released by the BPBD on Saturday.

Flooding in South Jakarta forced seven families, or 19 people, to take refuge, the data showed.

In East Jakarta, the floods swamped 143 community units, with floodwaters reaching a depth of 40 cm to 180 cm, forcing 372 families, or 1,361 people, to flee their homes .

The flooding also affected six community units in West Jakarta. However, no evacuees were reported.

Overall, 193, or 0.633 percent, of the 30,470 community units in Jakarta were flooded, with 379 families, or 1,380 people, shifted to safety, acting chief of the Jakarta BPBD, Sabdo Kurnianto, said.

"In addition, we can conclude several areas are still flooded due to high rainfall and the overflowing of Ciliwung, Krukut, and Pesanggrahan Rivers in South Jakarta, and Sunter and Cipinang Rivers in East Jakarta," he added.

No casualties or injuries were reported from the floods.
