TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Padjadjaran University (Unpad) Faculty of Medicine research team announced that it will be conducting clinical trials for the Anhui candidate vaccine in early March this year. Head researcher from Unpad, Rodman Tarigan, said “The vaccines have arrived in Indonesia.”
The University of Indonesia research team will open recruitment for volunteers. The team needs 2,000 volunteers in Bandung and another 2,000 in Jakarta.
This team of researchers has not specified what type of clinical trial volunteers are needed to develop the vaccine. They said they would need volunteers from varying degrees of backgrounds in general and are aged from 18 years old to the elderly group.
“The main requirement is that they must be healthy,” said Rodman, adding that they have not been exposed to Covid-19 and have not received any existing Covid-19 vaccination shots.
Volunteers that pass the requirements will be vaccinated three times with a one-month gap between each shot throughout the 14-month clinical trial. The recruitment will be open until April 31, 2021.
The Anhui Covid-19 candidate-vaccine research team said volunteers will be compensated financially.
The Anhui candidate vaccine’s third clinical trial phase will involve 29,000 people globally, such as from Uzbekistan, Ecuador, Pakistan, Indonesia, and China.
