TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The police named the management of the Pantjoran PIK Chinatown area as a suspect for holding the Chinese New Year 2021 Barongsai or a lion dance show that led to public crowds in Gold Island, Pantai Maju Reclaimed Island, North Jakarta.
The suspect who was identified by initials BJ was considered responsible for the crowded event which violated the Micro-scale Community Activity Restriction (Micro PPKM) amid the pandemic.
“We charge him under the Health Quarantine Law,” said North Jakarta Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head Adj. Sr. Comr. Dwi Prasetyo on Wednesday, February 17.
Dwi explained that the suspect naming was determined after the police officers asked for testimony from several witnesses. However, the suspect would not be arrested. “Because the threat [of the imprisonment] is only one year,” he added.
As previous reports suggested, North Jakarta Public Order Agency or Satpol PP sealed off Pantjoran PIK for not complying with the predetermined health protocols as the management held a Barongsai show and attracted crowds. The closure was carried out last Monday after a video displaying the crowds in the Chinatown area went viral on social media.
