TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government announced a mass Covid-19 vaccination program that subjects traders at the Tanah Abang Market, an economic hub in Central Jakarta, on Wednesday, February 17.
This vaccination marks the first for the general public after initial vaccinations for healthcare workers nationwide are nearly completed. There will be roughly up to 2,000 Tanah Abang traders who will receive vaccine shots.
Cakrawala Tirta Buana, which manages the Tanah Abang Blok A market, said that traders would be given coupons as a means to distribute the vaccine but also prevent creating hoards of people in a single location.
“We will use a coupon system that will determine the time and place for those who have been registered [to be vaccine recipients],” said the executive director of Cakrawala Tirta Buana, Indiarto Tanumihardja, on Tuesday, February 16.
Apart from the traders, the vaccine allocation will also be given to Tanah Abang Market management employees with a similar system of distribution to prevent creating crowds.
The city will station roughly 100 security personnel from the public order agency (Satpol PP), West Jakarta Police force, and the area’s Military Command, which will oversee the vaccination program.
