TEMPO.CO, Semarang - General Ahmad Yani International Airport in Semarang, Central Java, is temporarily closed as floodwater inundates the runway. Relation Manager of Angkasa Pura I, the state airport operator, Heri Trisno Wibowo, on Saturday, Feb. 6, said that the closure was based on the Notice to Airmen Number B0177/21 on RWY 13/31 Close.
“The temporary closure is due to the flooding at the runway after routine check/inspection in the morning. The flood was caused by the bad weather and prolonged heavy rain since last night,” he said.
Heri added that the Ahmad Yani Airport management is currently cleaning and conducting the suction of puddles in the runway by operating 54 pumps.
“We, together with the related units, activated 54 pumps to suck up the floodwater. Hope it can be soon resolved.”
The extreme weather and flood in the runway, said Heri, has forced Garuda Indonesia’s Jakarta-Semarang flight GA232 to be redirected to Juanda Airport, Surabaya.
