Jakarta to Revise Covid-19 Regulation, May Include Progressive Fines

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta provincial government announced its plan to work with city legislators to revise the regional regulation No.2/2020 on Covid-19 mitigation. This move is believed to be essential to adapt to the dynamic nature of the pandemic.
“Covid-19 is not something that is static which forces regulations to adapt, and even progress even further from the existing dynamics,” said Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria at City Hall on Thursday, February 4.
He revealed that several points contained in the Covid-19 regional regulation will be discussed in detail with the Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD), including the progressive fines that could be imposed on health protocol violators.
The progressive fine was initially revoked from the regulation’s derivatives for 2021 but is now considered to be reincluded after Jakarta DPRD member Mujiyono urged Governor Anies Baswedan to include it again for 2021.
“In situations like these, the law must not be slackened but be made stricter so people would abide by it,” said the Commission A DPRD member.
