TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria said that 80 percent of the success in reducing the spread of coronavirus that caused Covid-19 is the discipline of the community in complying with the health protocols of wearing face masks, washing hands, and avoiding crowds.
“No matter how good the regulations are made, no matter how many officers are deployed, and no matter how heavy the sanctions are imposed, they only contribute 20 percent to reducing the virus transmission, according to experts,” said Riza at City Hall, Central Jakarta, Thursday, February 4.
The deputy governor made the statement when asked about the city’s possibility to re-implement the stringent Large-Scale Social Restrictions or PSBB in the future as suggested by epidemiologists.
He said all suggestions were accepted, including from epidemiologists, yet it needs to be studied and deliberated. “The solution is to reduce, suppress, and break the virus chain. How? The key is on the people,” Riza underlined.
Jakarta is currently under the PSBB volume III, which started from January 26 to February 8, in accordance with the Gubernatorial Decree No. 51/2021.
Riza Patria earlier confirmed that the suggestion regarding the weekend lockdown in an effort to curb Covid-19 cases was being reviewed, yet the city administration must consider the central government’s decision.
