TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko on Wednesday publicly stated his respect for the former Democrat Party leader Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono or SBY as both spent time in the military. This comes after a controversy broke claiming Moeldoko - a former TNI commander - had meddled in the internal politics of the Democrat Party and even attempted a coup.
“He [BSY] was once my senior in the military, a senior that I truly respect and nothing will change that,” said Moeldoko in a press conference at this home on February 3.
Despite asserting he has no professional relationship issue with SBY, Moeldoko claims he has not had the opportunity to meet SBY and has no plans to do so in the near future, especially after rumors emerged that he had attempted to take over leadership in the Democrat Party which is currently led by SBY’s eldest son, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono or AHY.
A number of Democrat Party members view Moeldoko as a vile general with Democrat politician Rachland Nashidik arguing that the former TNI commander has no “political correctness” for meddling with a political party’s internal problems in the past as Moeldoko was an active TNI commander. This allegation was refuted by Moeldoko in the press conference.
