TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko denied an allegation that he attempted to take over the Democrat Party, adding it was like a joke.
"I think this is just a joke. [People say] Moeldoko plans a coup. What is a coup," he said in a press conference today, February 3, at his house in Menteng, Central Jakarta.
Moeldoko claimed that he had a lot of work and was a nobody who could organize an extraordinary congress to take over leadership at the Democrat Party, which is now led by Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono or better known as AHY. Each party has its clear rules and internal bylaws (AD/ART), he added.
"See it this way, I have an armed group and the military commander wants to be the party chairman, how can I hold up the weapon," said the Presidential Chief of Staff. "Don’t make a joke like that."
Moeldoko confirmed he had met with several Democrat politicians at home and several other places for coffees. "We just have coffees. Sometimes here and there. It’s just my work to talk with others," he said, stopping short of explaining further.
