TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy governor of Jakarta Ahmad Riza Patria on Tuesday concurred President Joko Widodo’s statement about the ineffectiveness of the ‘Java-Bali PPKM’ social restriction in suppressing the spread of Covid-19 as the capital city has entered its third week implementing it but failed to eradicate the ‘family cluster’ which has overshadowed Jakarta’s case surge.
“Yes, what President Jokowi said is true that it has not been effective. This needs time because we had just gone through a long holiday period at the end of last year,” said the Jakarta deputy governor on February 2. “Hopefully the following policies will be able to see its effect.”
Ahmad Riza Patria then called for members of the public to work together in implementing proper health protocols within households and encouraged the use of face masks as people gather at home, constantly washing one’s hands and disinfection, and paying attention to proper air circulation.
The Jakarta administration stated that they continue to coordinate with the central government in finding the best formula to enact the third PPKM social restriction period that would effectively suppress Covid-19 case growth.
