TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Democrat Party chairperson Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, popularly referred to as AHY, made a surprise public statement in his speech on Monday, Feb. 1, suspecting there are attempts to forcefully take leadership in the party to pave the road for the 2024 presidential election.
“There is a political movement narrowing down to a forceful takeover attempt on the Democrat Party leadership that threatens the party’s unity and existence,” said Agus, who is the eldest son of former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono or SBY.
Agus Yudhoyono also believes he obtained information from a Democrat Party regional member suggesting that the alleged movement is a systematic effort that involves an official within the President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo cabinet.
The person in question is said to be Moeldoko, according to AHY, along with former Democrat members that have been dishonorably discharged from the party and a former member involved in corruption.
Democrat politician Rachland Nashidik suggested a senior party member had revealed the involvement of Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko which he suspects is highly interested to run as candidate in the 2024 presidential election.
Moreover, AHY stated that the party has officially sent a letter to President Jokowi for clarification and confirmation regarding the information he had received. He also believes the systematic movement has been going for a month and intends to sway important members in the Democrat Party in exchange for money.
Responding to this information, Moeldoko has denied his involvement in the attempt to forcefully take over leadership in the political party currently led by AHY.
