TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) issued an early warning of extreme rainfall accompanied by lightning and strong winds or tornadoes in the capital city on January 28-February 2, 2021.
The acting head of the agency Sabdo Kurnianto appealed to the public to be more vigilant and prepare themselves for potential hydrometeorological disasters.
“We urge the public to anticipate and prepare everything to protect themselves from the thunderstorm,” said Sabdo in a written statement today.
According to him, the upcoming extreme weather might cause floods, landslides, fallen trees, and slippery roads.
Related regional apparatus, sub-district heads, and village heads in areas prone to flooding or landslides were also asked to anticipate the impacts and deploy the Public Facility Maintenance Agency (PPSU) and the Flood Task Force of the Water Resources Agency.
“The public can call 112 for assistance,” Sabdo added.
The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued an Impact-Based Forecast (IBF) over floods or flash floods on January 28-29. Jakarta was predicted to have the possible impacts under alert status.
