TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Transportation Ministry planned to install hundreds of GeNose, a Covid-19 detector developed by Gadjah Mada University (UGM), at 44 stations throughout Java and Sumatra.
Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said GeNose would be set in railroad transportation mode and be implemented beginning February 5, 2021.
“We have ordered 200 units of GeNose which will be distributed to 44 stations throughout Java and Sumatra,” said Budi in a press release quoted on Monday, January 25.
The detectors would also be installed in buses on February 5. However, the implementation would be carried out randomly.
Budi Karya said he had asked the Land Transport Director-General to coordinate with regional transportation agencies across the country. If a passenger is found to carry the coronavirus, he added, the person must not be allowed to board the transportation mode.
Meanwhile, Land Transport Director-General Budi Setiyadi said the first bus terminal to have GeNose in Jakarta would be Pulo Gebang Terminal. “We have ordered 100 units and will be distributed to regions,” he said.
