TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Evacuees of the Mamuju earthquake in West Sulawesi are reportedly having difficulties obtaining clean water after supplies from the state water firm (PDAM) was cut off as the pipes were damaged by the magnitude 6.2 quake on January 15.
“It’s been a week since people had difficulties getting their hands on clean water at evacuation camps. The clean water provided by PDAM installed in houses no longer flows,” said Ramadhan, one of the quake survivors at the evacuation center in Mamuju on Friday, January 22.
Ramadhan said people are unable to continue cooking and fulfilling other daily needs after PDAM piping networks were severely damaged in So’do Kali and Pattidi Villages in Mamuju.
PDAM is reportedly making its way to the location of the damaged water pipes and has to travel through mountains and other heavy terrains.
