TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Provincial Government has scrapped the rule on progressive fines for individuals and business entities who violate the Covid-19 health protocols in the new gubernatorial regulation (Pergub).
The progressive sanctions were no longer stipulated in Pergub No. 3/2021 on the implementation of Regional Government Regulation (Perda) No. 2/2020 or Perda Covid-19 concerning the Covid-19 mitigation.
In Pergub No. 79/2020, an individual who did not wear a face mask will be fined Rp250,000. The fine would increase if the person was caught for neglecting the protocol a second time and so on.
The progressive penalty has been removed in Pergub No. 3/2021. As noted in Article 6, violators will be required to pay Rp250,000 and participate in community service.
Likewise, the progressive sanctions for business entities that violated the health protocols in Pergub 3/2021 have also been removed. The previous regulation Pergub 101/2020 noted that offenders were subject to a progressive fine of Rp50 million. If they could not pay the fine, they would be threatened with the revocation of their business license.
