TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A local Indonesian fisherman has once again discovered a submerged object or underwater drone - with Chinese symbols on its bullet-like casing - in the waters of the Anambas Islands located in Riau Islands.
This discovery comes not long after a fisherman also found a Chinese underwater glider deep inside Indonesian ocean territory.
According to the locals, the current drone resembles a bullet with a propeller on its end which was found beached at the Desa Air Putih beach in East Siantan. It was mostly blue in color and had Chinese engravings at its end, according to fisherman Ain and his son Aris on Tuesday, January 19.
“This is the first time I saw such an object. So I am unaware what it’s called,” said Ain.
The Chinese underwater drone - which weighs 25 kilograms and is 1,5 meters in length - is still in its initial location where it was found until this Wednesday according to another local. He said the Anambas Regency administration and authorities would arrive to follow up the finding this afternoon.
Information about this finding has been made widespread as it was also announced by @Jatosint, which is known as an open source intelligence service on Twitter.
The previous Chinese unmanned underwater vehicle was found in the waters of Tenggol Island in the Selayar Islands south of Sulawesi.
