Minister Ensures Compensation for Families of Sriwijaya Air Crash Victims

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi confirmed that Sriwijaya Air had prepared compensation of Rp1.25 billion for each family of the crash victims.
"Sriwijaya is set to deliver the insurance money worth Rp1.25 billion per passenger to the families in parallel after the victim's family submits a letter noting they are the eligible heir issued by the local government,” said the minister in an online live broadcast today, Jan. 20.
Budi said the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) has collected 324 bags of the victim's remains. From these findings, the Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team of the National Police Hospital has identified 40 victims, and 27 bodies have been handed over to the families.
Jasa Raharja as the insurance company, he added, had also granted compensation to 36 victims' families. According to Budi, the joint search and rescue team is still conducting evacuation, including hunting the Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) to investigate the cause of the accident.
President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo today witnessed the handover of compensation worth Rp50 million per passenger from Jasa Raharja and Rp1.25 billion per passenger from Sriwijaya. He expressed gratitude and hoped that the compensation process could be completed soon.
Sriwijaya Air SJ182 allegedly crashed into the waters off Laki Island, Seribu Islands on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021. The plane serving the Jakarta-Pontianak route carried 62 people, including the crew.
