TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno is eyeing to designate several Mass Rapid Transit or MRT Jakarta stations as the media for tourism and creative economy players to promote their businesses in a bid to revive the sectors post the pandemic.
“MRT has the potential for showcasing various tourism destinations and others related to technological advances,” said Sandiaga on Tuesday, Jan. 19.
H. Nawi MRT Station, for example, has a coffee culture spot with a travel planner. “So coffee drinkers who stop by at H. Nawi can transit while enjoying coffee,” said the minister.
The ministry had earlier collaborated with MRT management. One of the MRT stations was set as a showcase area for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and creative economy players to promote their products.
Sandiaga also encouraged the application of Intelligent Transport System (ITS) to support the development initiative and the use of smart transportation in various tourist destinations in Indonesia.
“We plan to make Bali as [the location to execute the] pilot project for the development and use of smart transportation, through which tourists can choose it (the destination) directly via digital platforms," Sandiaga Uno said, hoping that it will realize the inclusion in the inner city-based tourism.
