TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Research and Technology Minister and Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency, Bambang Brodjonegoro on Monday said that the Eijkman Institute of Molecular Biology has the swiftest progress in developing the home grown ‘Merah Putih vaccine' compared to other institutions appointed to develop it.
“Eijkman is hoped to produce vaccine seeds and hand them over to Bio Farma in March,” said Bambang in a House Hearing streamed live by Commission VII House of Representatives on January 18.
Bambang explains that the clinical trials and mass-production of the candidate vaccine will be the responsibility of state-pharmaceutical firm Bio Farma under the close scrutiny of the Food and Drugs Monitoring Agency.
Apart from Eijkman, other institutions developing it are University of Indonesia (UI) Gadjah Mada University, University of Airlangga, Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), and the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI).
“The six institutions have different development approaches but are commonly attempting to give birth to the Merah Putih vaccine,” said Bambang in the House hearing.
