Magnitude 5.0 Earthquakes Hit Majene and Bitung Today

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A magnitude 5.0 earthquake shook Majene, West Sulawesi on Saturday morning, January 16.
The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded the quake that occurred at 06:32 Western Indonesia Time at the depth of 10 meters. The center of the quake was at the coordinate of 2.89 degrees South Latitude and 119.03 degrees East Longitude on land, 20-kilometer Northeast of Majene.
Thirty minutes earlier, BMKG also recorded an earthquake in Bitung, North Sulawesi. A magnitude 5.2 quake shook the region at 6 a.m. Western Indonesia Time at the depth of 73 kilometers.
The epicenter was at 1.44 degrees South Latitude and 126.02 degrees East Longitude at sea, 99-kilometer of East Bitung.
