TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Port of Mamuju in Mamuju Regency, West Sulawesi, is temporarily closed after the main access road and the bridge heading to the port sustained damages caused by the magnitude 6.2 earthquake that struck the regency in the early dawn of Friday, January 15.
“According to field reports, communications and electricity are still completely down. The damages also cut the access to the port,” said ASDP Indonesia Ferry corporate secretary Shelvy Arifin on January 15.
Shelvy asserted the port would be opened after the situation returned to normal and power returned.
The Port of Mamuju sustained several damages, including its parking area, while local officials continued to inspect the port’s moveable bridge physical condition. This port serves ferry trips from Mamuju to Balikpapan.
The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) announced that the death toll remained at 34 until further updates.
