TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) on Friday extended the search effort at the wreckage site where the Sriwijaya Air flight SJ182 crashed for three more days. The search area remains in the waters off Kepulauan Seribu (Thousand Islands).

The search time extension was decided in today’s meeting with Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi considering the current situation.

“It has been decided that the search and rescue operation for the victims and wreckages of Sriwijaya Flight SJ182 is officially extended for another three days until Monday,” said the Transportation Minister on Friday, January 15.

The Basarnas will evaluate the search period after Monday’s results. The joint search effort on Friday, January 15, has shifted its focus from the middle of the sea to areas heading towards the coastline due to the winds that have blown from west to south to search for drifting debris from its actual impact point.

As the search and rescue operation enters its 6th day, the team has shifted its focus to the Islands of Untung Jawa, Rambut, and Bokor. Up to this day, Basarnas has recovered body parts contained in 98 bags, nine small bags filled with the aircraft’s debris, and five large wreckages from Sriwijaya Flight SJ182
