TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud Md pledged to follow up the National Commission on Human Rights or Komnas HAM findings on the fatal clash between police and the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI). He asserted that the government would not cover up the case.
Mahfud said President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo had received Komnas HAM reports regarding the death of six FPI members.
“[The President] hopes all recommendations made by Komnas HAM to be followed up. Nothing can be hidden,” said Mahfud in a press conference at his office, Central Jakarta, Thursday, Jan. 14.
Mahfud claimed he was summoned by Jokowi to discuss the report shortly after it was submitted. The report revealed that there was a clash between the police and FPI members on Cikampek toll road which resulted in the death of six FPI members. Komnas HAM considered the death of the four members was an unlawful killing.
Mahfud also highlighted the finding which revealed the use of firearms by police officers against civilians. "In the report, if the officers were not triggered, it would not happen," he said.
