Health Protocol Compliance; Popular Figures in TV Shows Criticized

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the Covid-19 task force Doni Monardo said there are contrasting differences in how health protocols are practiced between news programs and variety shows aired on mainstream television.

Doni believes that tv news programs have shown good health protocol conformity by showing proper uses of face masks, however, he said the same cannot be said for public figures that appear in variety shows which he said still fail to show proper uses of face masks and face shields.

"News programs have done this very well but for variety shows with figures idolized by people have not worn face masks and face shields properly," said Doni Monardo in a House of Representatives (DPR) hearing on January 14, 2021.

The Covid-19 task force leader said that such conditions arguably shows that health protocols are still underestimated and is feared that their actions on television will be followed by their fans.

"The culture of our public is by sight, they might follow the wrong examples that are shown. This is what we must prevent," said Doni Monardo.
