TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the Covid-19 task force Doni Monardo warned the public to comply with health protocols as the number of active cases had surged by 130 percent within the past two months.
According to Doni, the active coronavirus cases in November 2020 were 12 percent with 54,000 cumulative cases, a number he said was the lowest Indonesia had recorded for the previous 10 months.
"However, it had increased by 130 percent for the past two months," said Doni Monardo during a hearing with members of the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission VIII on Thursday, January 14, 2021.
He believed that health protocol compliance had slowly decreased during the year-end holidays added with 'pandemic fatigue' and other psychological issues caused by social restrictions experienced by people were attributable to the case surge.
Active cases as of Thursday, January 14, is 133,149 with 11,557 of new cases being recorded, which makes the total number of confirmed cases in Indonesia spike to 869,600 cases.
