Gov't Suggest Certificate for Covid-19 Vaccine Recipients

14 January 2021 18:23 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin stated that he will study the plan to issue a certificate as an incentive for people who had received the Covid-19 vaccine. Budi said that the electronic certificate can be used as travel requirement or for other industries.

The statement was made in response to questions from members of Comission IX of the House of Representatives.

According to Budi, giving certificates as an incentive is a good ide instead of scaring off the public with criminal consequences for refusing to be vaccinated.

"There is a good idea and I think I will use it, for example, tho who have been vaccinated will be given certificate," Budi said on Thursday, January 14, 2021.

Budi said that the certificate will not be provided in physical form but in digital form. He said that the certificate may replace the PCR or antigen test requirements for air travel.

Budi also said that he will discuss the idea with Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi.

Budi added that the Covid-19 vaccine certificate can also be used as requirements for engaging in public activities, such as attending concerts, going to department stores, attending religious congregation, or for other purposes.

"As long as there is a health certificate in the form of Google Wallet, we can fin an app that can be made by Indonesian youngsters, so it can be a good screening mechanism, and online too," Budi said.

A member of the Comission IX of the House of Representatives Rahmad Handoyo interrupted the idea and requested Budi to be careful in implemeting the idea to avoid people from thinking they are free from the virus after receiving the vaccine.

Rahmad highlighted findings that someone who had received the Covid-19 vaccine does not mean they are free from the possibility of being infected by the Coronavirus.

"After being vaccined travel everywhere, caught the virus board an airplane, infecting everyone. Be careful," Rahmad said.
