TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Health Minister Dante Saksono Harbuwono clarified that the first stage of the Covid-19 vaccination program which was prioritized for health workers was aimed at providing an example to the public. He said healthcare workers acknowledged the impact and importance of vaccines.
“To give an example and as a role model. To give assurance to the public that the vaccines are safe because the clinical trials have been carried out,” said Dante after participating in the Covid-19 vaccination along with healthcare workers at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital Jakarta, Thursday, Jan. 14.
Another reason for prioritizing medical workers was because they would provide medical services and treatment for patients with the coronavirus disease.
According to Dante, a total of 1,4 million health workers would receive the Covid-19 vaccine.
The Health Ministry’s spokesperson, Siti Nadia Tarmidzi, announced that the vaccination program for health workers would be carried out simultaneously across Indonesia beginning Friday, Jan. 15, until the end of February.
