Jokowi, Chinese Minister to Talk of Strengthening Economic Ties

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo and Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi are scheduled to meet Chinese Foreign Affairs Minister Wang Yi in Jakarta today, January 13, 2021. The meeting would discuss strengthening strategic cooperation in the economy.
“Bapak Wang Yi will be welcomed by the President of the Republic of Indonesia and will hear the President’s hopes for the strategic ties between the two countries,” said Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Tuesday, January 12.
The partnership of Indonesia and China includes maritime, investment and trade, vocational training, and poverty alleviation in coastal areas.
Wang Yi had arrived in Indonesia on January 12 and visited Lake Toba in North Sumatra before flying to Jakarta. His visit to Lake Toba was originally scheduled to take place in February 2020 yet delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Wang Yi along with his delegates went hiking and visited several historical places around the super-priority destination. His arrival at Lake Toba was to fulfill Luhut's invitation.
“The arrival of my friend, Bapak Wang Yi to Lake Toba, is expected to develop good and sustainable cooperation between the two countries,” said Luhut.
